"The Blackout Game"

Fog Bowl, Ice Bowl, Freezer Bowl, Tuck Rule Game, Jeffery Mayer Game, Steve Bartmann Game,  The Bucky Dent Game.....................The blackout game???  Sauk Centre has finally taken its place among some of the most memorable sporting events of all time.  Kinda.  Shortly after halftime of the Boys Basketball game against Milaca Friday night the power went out at Sauk Centre High School.  The game, which was in progress with Milaca leading 24-13.  The game will be resumed at a later date not yet determined.

60-point win for Streeter girls

By Bryan Zollman

The Sauk Centre girls held Milaca to two free throws in the second half Friday night in a 60-point win. Sauk led 44-11 at the half, and played mostly reserves for the second half.
Kali Peschel, who notched her 1,000th point in the early minutes of the first half outscored Milaca with 14 points. Savana Weller and Shelby Deters had nine points, Maren Greenwaldt (check out the Herald Tuesday for my column on Maren) had eight points, Megan Rieland and Rachel Gruber finished with seven, Kourtney Nelson had six, Paige Baum and Ashley Gruber had four, Emily Petermeier three and Chelsea Donnay two.
Another balanced offensive attack and more importantly a great defensive effort, although Milaca isn't very good. Then again Sauk is making a lot of teams look not very good this year. 16 straight and counting....keep it going girls!

Hockey game ends after two periods

The North Stars loss last night was after two periods of play due to the blackout that stretched throughout Sauk Centre, and apparently Melrose and Osakis as well. Word is that a transformer blew and NSP had to come fix it, leaving those attending the hockey game and boys basketball game in the dark.
It also washed out the hockey team's chances of coming back in their game. Shots on goal were 26-21 in favor of Hinckley-Mora to that point.
Because the game was two periods in it does count as a loss for the Stars. Still haven't heard about boys basketball. If anyone knows, throw a comment onto this thread to explain the results......more later.

Making Strides: Future looks bright for hockey squad

The Prairie Centre North Stars lost 3-1 last night to Mora-Hinckley to fall to 4-13-1 on the season.
Call it another episode of the young guns going through some growing pains. But despite their lopsided record this season, you can expect them to win more than they lose next year. They will return just about every player, most who are playing their first full season of varsity hockey.
Of their top four scorers, three are only sophomores and are averaging a point a game. Cody Bartkowicz has 14 goals in his first 17 games this year, and Nate Mettenburg and Tyler Schultz each have 19 points. Jason Christianson, a junior, is probably the most talented of the four, and still has a year of varsity hockey left.

Kali Peschel notches 1,000th point

By Bryan Zollman

Congratulations to Kali Peschel who reached 1,000 points tonight in Sauk Centre's win over Milaca. She needed just 10 points and got them in the first few minutes and notched her 1,000th from the free throw line.
Don't forget to check out the Herald on Tuesday for the story, including comments from the school's all-time leading scorer, Joyce Knoblauch. Kali has a chance at breaking Joyce's record this year as a sophomore!

Kali Peschel's Three Ignites Crowd

Kali Peschel stops New London Spicer's momentum with a huge three point basket Tuesday night.  The Streeters were on the ropes a bit as NLS had pulled within 1 point at 42-41.  Peschel, here capping an 8-0 run to push the Streeters lead to 50-41, squashed the Wildcats' rally and with it their dreams of toppling the number 1 ranked Streeters.

Streeter Crowd Defense Chant

The Streeter crowd comes alive with chants of defense during the first half of Tuesday's game against New London Spicer.  The crowd, which was bleeding maroon and white all night long, gave the Streeter girls extra energy all night.  As the shirts said, the Streeters are "Ranked for a reason"

#1 vs. #2 Game Diary Part 1

For those of you who were not able to attend, the Streeter girls were able to finally put away New London Spicer tonight.  The gym was packed with passionate fans from both sides.  It was a great atmosphere for the game.  So I figured if there ever was a time to try to do a running diary of a game this was it so here we go.

Pregame
5:58 to go before game-  Live from the gym at Sauk Centre High School, tonight we are treated to the number one ranked team in state vs the number two ranked team in state.  This is literally something that may never happen in Sauk Centre again.  The gym is packed as Bryan Adams belts from the speakers singing something about these being the best days of our lives...hmmmm very appropriate.  As I write that the song switches to Don't Stop Believing by Journey, now you know its going to be a good night.
