Dollar for Scholars Basketball scheduled for Thursday at school

The second annual Dollars for Scholars benefit basketball game between Faculty an Alumni is on tap for Thursday night, March 29 at the Sauk Centre Senior High gymnasium at 7:30 p.m. One added feature this year will be a preliminary game at 6:30 p.m. All Stars from among the eight competing teams in the Sunday Recreational league will be on hand to begin the evening of hoops.
“These All Stars are above the usual caliber of players thought of at that level of age and expertise,” states Harry Hanson, who directs the league. Teams have players from the entire surrounding area from Swanville and Clarissa to St. Cloud, Belgrade, and Alexandria who plain enjoy playing the game.
He mentions one players who is the head girls basketball coach at Melrose High School who played professionally for one year in New Zealand and Australia before deciding on a future coaching career back in Minnesota. “Chris Anderson is his name, and he has fired a 52 point game earlier this years including a number of 3s.”
Another is Mike Brower, assistant basketball coach of B-B-E who pumped through nine 3s for 27 points for his game total for the night. There are three players who consistently pass the ball like Ricky Rubio of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Most of the players have adapted to the ball-handling skills of today’s style of play.
Basketball fans from mites to seniors should come and enjoy a final evening of basketball before spring, and help a good cause.
