Streeter boys fall to talented Little Falls squad

Little falls beat Sauk Centre 72-67 in the title game of the Little Falls Holiday Tournament.
SC had a ten point lead at halftime 35-25.
Little falls is now 6-1, they average 85 points a game and had 105 in one of those games.
The Sauk Centre boys are 5-3 and play at LP/GE on Thursday.

North Stars' cooled off by Sauk Rapids-Rice

In the final game of the Granite City Classic, the Prairie Centre Area North Stars boys' hockey team was cooled off in a 4-2 loss to Sauk Rapids-Rice after winning their previous six outings.

After both teams battled to a 1-1 tie through two periods, the Storm erupted for three goals in the final period to pick up the win. Prairie Centre's six-game winning streak is the longest the program has enjoyed since the merging of the Long Prairie and Sauk Centre/Melrose programs earlier in the 2000s.

Now 6-4, the North Stars next take on Section 6A rival Little Falls (7-6) on Tuesday, Jan. 3 in Little Falls. The Flyers have won four games in a row, including two over Top 20 Class 1A schools.

An update on Fusion boys' swimming and diving, the Sauk Centre/Melrose team placed third at the five-team Brainerd Invitational on Thursday. Team scores were: Brainerd 663, Monticello 558, Sauk Centre/Melrose 382, Perham 314, Bemidji 203.

Streeter girls win Pierz tourney

The Sauk Centre girls beat St. Cloud Cathedral Wednesday night to claim title honors at the Pierz Healy Holiday Tournament.

Sauk won 53-34 after leading just 22-20 at the half.

Macy Weller and Ashley Gruber were named to the all-tournament team.

Streeter boys come from behind to win tourney opener

Sauk trailed by 13 at one point, but came back Wednesday to beat Pequot Lakes 62-60 in the opener of their holiday tourney in Little Falls.

Nick Adams scored 21 points and Patrick Knoblauch added 13 to lead the Streeters, who will face Little Falls at 7 p.m. tomorrow.

The win improves Sauk's record to 5-2.

North Stars make it six in a row

The Prairie Centre Area North Stars boys' hockey team won its sixth game in a row after edging Section 6A rival Morris/Benson Area 4-3 at the St. Cloud tournament today.

The North Stars, now 6-3 overall, face Sauk Rapids-Rice tomorrow at 4:15 p.m. in the championship game.

At Pierz, the Mainstreeters girls' basketball team leads St. Cloud Cathedral 27-21 with 12 minutes left in the game. Final score: Sauk Centre 53, Cathedral 34.

The Mainstreeters take a 6-2 record into the new year. They next face Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa (2-6, 0-2 Central MN Conference) on Tuesday, Jan. 3 on the home court in Sauk Centre.

Prairie Centre Area wins 4-3 in opening around of the St. Cloud Tournament

In a hockey game held earlier today against Northern Lights, the Prairie Centre Area North Stars boys' hockey team won 4-3.

They are in action tomorrow and Thursday for the final two rounds of the tournament.

No word yet on who they play tomorrow.

The Mainstreeter girls' basketball team won against Crosby-Ironton in their opening-round game of the Pierz Healy tournament tonight. They play in the championship at 8 p.m. on Wednesday night. The final score of Sauk Centre's game was 39-27.

Pierz and St. Cloud Cathedral were playing in the other semifinal game tonight. During the second half at one point the Pioneers held a slim 46-41 lead. The Crusaders ended up winning, though, by a 62-50 margin.

Sauk Centre-area sports are in action today

At Pierz, the Mainstreeters girls' basketball team opens up a four-team tournament that continues tomorrow night. They face Crosby-Ironton with a 6 p.m. tip-off. The B- and C-squads play at 8 p.m.

At St. Cloud's MAC, the Prairie Centre Area North Stars boys' hockey team opens up a Holiday Tournament today as well. That event runs through Thursday night. The North Stars' game today began at 11 a.m. against Northern Lights.
