Mainstreeters bury Staples-Motley, Adams passes 1,000-point mark

At Staples-Motley on Friday night in a sub-section match up, the Mainstreeters boys' basketball team defeated the Cardinals 87-48 for their fourth game in a row scoring 83 or more points. Up next is the big Melrose game at home on Tuesday! Read the Feb. 21 issue of the Sauk Centre Herald to learn more about that.

On Saturday at Paynesville Area, the Mainstreeters girls' basketball team won 58-35 to improve to 22-1 overall on the season. They end the regular season and West Central North Conference schedule on Monday with a home game against Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta.

At Wadena-Deer Creek in the Section 6A playoff opener, Prairie Centre Area lost to the Wolverines in a hotly-contested match 4-3. The young North Stars end the season 6-18-2 overall.

Boys' hockey playoffs begin Saturday

Prairie Centre Area opens the Section 6A boys' hockey playoffs with a play-in round game on Saturday at Wadena-Deer Creek. The puck drops at 7 p.m.

Also on Saturday is a trip to Paynesville Area for the Mainstreeters girls' basketball team. It's a conference match up rescheduled from Dec. 18. Next Monday the girls' basketball team hosts Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta in another West Central Conference North game.

Mainstreeters whitewash YME

In a West Central Conference boys' basketball game at Granite Falls tonight, the Sauk Centre Mainstreeters made quick work of the Sting and picked up an 89-52 win.

Now 14-4 overall, the Mainstreeters travel to Staples-Motley this Friday. The Cardinals are 9-10 overall and have lost their last three games.

North Stars boys' hockey wraps up regular season tomorrow night

Prairie Centre Area looks for their seventh win of the season with a trip to Breezy Point on Tuesday night, where they'll face Northern Lakes (Pequot Lakes, Aitkin, Crosby-Ironton, Pine River-Backus) in a Mid-State Conference contest. The Lightning are 10-12 overall and 2-5 in the conference standings.

The Sauk Centre-Melrose wrestling team opens the Section 6AA team playoffs on Tuesday night. SC-M is seeded 10th with a 4-14 overall record and faces seventh-seeded Princeton (9-11) in the play-in round. They square off at New London-Spicer beginning at 6 p.m. The Wildcats, seeded two with a 9-8 overall record, face the winner of the match in the section quarterfinals later in the evening. Foley (20-4) is the top seed, while Becker (17-4) is third.

The Sauk Centre vs. Staples-Motley girls' basketball game scheduled for tonight (Feb. 11) was cancelled and will not be made up. The Mainstreeters look for win number 20 on the season with a home game against Yellow Medicine East tomorrow night. The Sting are 4-17 overall and 1-13 in the West Central South Conference; they're struggling this year and hold a 39.9 points per game offensive average.

The Mainstreeters boys' basketball team travels to YME (Granite Falls) to face the 1-15 Sting tomorrow night. A win would give Sauk Centre a 14-4 overall record.
