Streeters go 11 against top-ranked Crusaders

It took 11 innings and a passed ball for the No. 1 ranked St. Cloud Cathedral baseball squad to defeat Sauk Centre Thursday night in St. Cloud in the nightcap of a doubleheader.

Tied 3-3 in the bottom of the 11th the Crusaders scored on a passed ball. The Streeters had taken a 3-2 lead in the third inning on an RBI single by Derek Holm and a two-run single by Adam Polipnick.

Meanwhile Polipnick was cruising on the mound. Cathedral added a run in the fifth on a passed ball and scored the tying run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly.

Shane Trattles relieved Polipnick and pitched out of a bases loaded nobody out jam, giving up just the sac fly. He would throw 5 and 2/3 scoreless innings of relief before the Crusaders scored the game-winner.

"What a game," said Sauk Centre Head Coach Bryan Zollman. "The kids played their hearts out and left absolutely everything on the field. It didn't turn out the way we had hoped, but I am proud of their effort and determination. They never laid down. They expected to win and thats the attitude we have to have every time we take the field, no matter who we are playing."
