Step two is completed on their post-season mission by the Streeters girls basketball team

Final score out of the Sub-Section 6AA-East semifinals tonight at St.John's University: Sauk Centre 65, Pierz 31.

In the other semi-final, #2-seed New London-Spicer prevailed 65-51 over #3 seed Albany.

It sets up a rematch between the Streeters and NL-S for the Sub-Section 6AA-East championship game. (If you weren't counting, this would be the third year in a row that has happened!)

The game will be held next Tuesday, March 8, back at St.John's University at 7:00pm.

What an exciting finish to the regular season for the Streeters boys basketball team

Final score in the regular season finale on the home court on Thursday night: Sauk Centre 63, Albany 61 - OT.

The Mainstreeters will take a 16-8 overall record into the Sub-Section 6AA-East playoffs, which begin next Thursday, March 10, at 7:00pm in Sauk Centre. The first-round opponent will be the 7th-seeded Holdingford Huskers (7-18).

Greenwaldt reaches 1,000 points

Maren Greenwaldt shot early and often Tuesday, but not much was falling for the senior guard as she closed in on the coveted 1,000-point mark in the Streeters' opening round playoff game against St. John's Prep.

It was obvious her teammates were trying to give her every opportunity to shoot the ball in what turned into an early whitewashing for the No. 2-ranked Streeters.

Maren was cold early, but heated up and had 20 points about midway through the second half. That's when she received the ball at the top of the key and lofted a moon shot over the defenders and into the hoop. Nothing but net, and a well-deserved milestone for the soft-spoken senior.

After the game Greenwaldt was presented with a keepsake ball by her teammates, which she then presented to her mom and dad.

It was a nice moment in what has turned out to be a remarkable season for the Streeters as they look to get back to the state tournament and hopefully compete for a state title.

Sauk Centre hasn't had a team state title since the mid 1980s when boys' golf had a nice run. The 1982 baseball team is the only other team to win a state championship.

Congratulations to Maren Greenaldt as she becomes the second player in as many years to join the 1,000 point club. Kali Peschel reached the milestone last season. Other members include Deb Hannsman, Joyce Middendorf, Kelli Olmscheid and Bryanne Engen.

The first step on the march to state is completed - Streeters girls basketball lights up St.John's Prep in playoff opener

Their opponent will be a very good #4-seed Pierz Pioneers team. They face off on Friday night (March 4) at 6:30pm at St.John's University. In the final game of the night, Albany faces New London-Spicer at 8:15pm on the same floor.

Pierz 52, Melrose 39
