Mainstreeters softball wins 12-0 in five innings at Foley

The Streeters softball team has now won five in a row, their longest winning streak since 2006. They are 7-4 overall and 6-4 in the West Central North Conference.

Sophomore Colleen LuGrain threw all five innings to get the win, limiting the Falcons (2-6) to two hits. The win completes the series sweep over Foley for this season.

Junior Ashley Gruber hit one single today at Foley...

The Mainstreeters baseball team couldn't pull off their third win in a row, as they fell at home to Foley 5-2.

Mainstreeters softball team makes it four in a row with a five-inning win vs. Melrose Area

Now 6-4 overall, the Sauk Centre Mainstreeters softball team won its fourth straight game today with a 15-3 win over Melrose Area in West Central North Conference action.

The Streeters also moved to above .500 in the West Central North Conference with a 5-4 mark. They travel to Foley (3-7, 3-6 WCCN) tomorrow for a 5 p.m. game. The Streeters defeated Foley 5-1 on April 12 in Sauk Centre.

The four-game winning streak is the longest for Streeters softball since 2006, when they won six in a row in the middle of an 8-7 season.

Down in Melrose, the Mainstreeters baseball team won their second game in a row and second overall of the season with a 1-0 conquest of the host Dutchmen.

Senior Louis VanBeck earned a complete-game win on the mound, throwing a four-hitter, according to Coach Zollman.

The Streeters baseball team (2-6) hosts Foley (5-5) tomorrow in a 5 p.m. game. They will be looking to avenge a tough 11-1 loss at Foley on April 12.

Mainstreeters softball wins 16-10 at Milaca, now above .500 for the first time since '08

The Sauk Centre Mainstreeters softball team is now 5-4 overall and 4-4 in the West Central North Conference. Their above-.500 overall record marks the first time since May 6, 2008 that they have had more wins than losses.

Kourtney Nelson went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and two doubles to lead the Streeters at the plate. Kayla Zenzen was 3-for-4.
The Streeters scored four runs in the first inning and four more in the seventh to salt the win.

Milaca falls to 5-5 overall and 5-5 in the WCCN. Sauk Centre sits in 5th place in the nine-team conference.

Up next, the Streeters softball team hosts Melrose Area on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. The Dutchmen, who fell in the season opener 11-8 to Sauk Centre, are 0-9. On Friday the Streeters travel to Foley to face the Falcons for the second time this season.

In conference girls' golf action, the Mainstreeters girls' golf team placed fourth at Mora. Team scores were: 1. St. Cloud Cathedral 180; 2. Albany 190; 3. New London-Spicer 202; 4. Sauk Centre 209; 5. Milaca 214; 6. Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 227; 7. Melrose 235; 8. Foley 255; 9. Mora 272.

Mainstreeters baseball picks up first win of the season

Great news!

The visiting Milaca Wolves lost their 10th game of the season today, after the Sauk Centre Mainsteeters baseball team won 8-1.

Mike Knoblauch pitched a complete game for the win, earning 10 strikeouts against one walk and four hits given up.

Now 1-6 overall, the Mainstreeters travel to Melrose Area on Thursday to face the 4-4 Dutchmen. On Friday, the Mainstreeters host Foley, a team that has fallen to 4-5 overall after a 3-1 start to the season.

The girls' 1600-meter run...

The Mainstreeters won the girls' team title at B-B-E today with 143.5 team points.

Maren Greenwaldt took first in the 1,600-meter run (5:33.0), Rebecca Macey won the 800 (2:36.1), Elizabeth Hemsworth took first in the 400 (59.2) and Amelia Maher won the high jump (5-0) to lead the Mainstreeters.

The Mainstreeters boys' team placed third out of nine teams with a total of 136 points.

Coming Tuesday - a very busy day for Mainstreeter sports

Beginning at 4 p.m. at the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa High School is the annual Belgrade Lions' track and field meet.

Anywhere from one to two dozen Belgrade Lions Club members will be assisting the B-B-E track and field coaching staff to pull off the 11-team invitational. Teams included are the host Jaguars, Eden Valley-Watkins/Kimball Area, Hancock, Holdingford, Maple Lake, Osakis, Rockford Area, Royalton, Saint John's Prep, Sauk Centre and Paynesville Area.

Also coming on Tuesday night for Sauk Centre's varsity sports:
The Mainstreeters baseball team will host Milaca at 5 p.m. The Mainstreeters softball team travels to Milaca for a 5 p.m. game. The Mainstreeters girls' golf team will travel to Mora for a West Central North Conference meet at 5 p.m. Finally, the Mainstreeters boys' golf team travels to Meadowlark Golf Course in Melrose for a WCCN meet at 5 p.m.

A very busy day indeed!

*Random notes...Milaca's softball team is 5-4 overall after defeating Melrose Area today by a 9-6 core. Milaca's baseball team is 1-9 overall and 0-7 in the West Central North Conference. The Wolves' only win in baseball was at Pierz on April 8 by a 5-4 score.
