What a start!

In a rousing start to the 2012 season, the Sauk Centre Mainstreeters volleyball team raced out to a 4-0 start while winning the Albany tournament on Friday. They defeated Rocori, Milaca and Maple Lake on their way to the championship game. In the final match, they faced the host Albany Huskies and swept their way to top honors in the tournament.

Stay tuned for more coverage as the Mainstreeters head into next week. They next play at Benson next Thursday, Aug. 30, for the West Central Conference opener.

Mainstreeters girls' tennis improves to 6-0

In the first match of a home triangular on Wednesday, the Mainstreeters girls' tennis team edged Park Rapids Area 4-3.

They faced Yellow Medicine East in the second match later in the day and blanked the Sting 7-0.

By the way, good luck to the Sauk Centre cross country teams, as they open the 2012 season next Monday at the Morris meet. It will be held at the Pomme de Terre Golf Course, which is located 2 miles southeast of Morris on Highway 9. A season preview of their team and results from Monday's meet will be in the Aug. 30 issue of the Sauk Centre Herald.

Girls' tennis notches two more wins

The Sauk Centre Mainstreeters improved to 4-0 on the tennis courts with wins over Parkers Prairie and Wadena-Deer Creek today. They are hosting a home quadrangular that wraps up later today when they face Benson/Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg.

Last Friday they defeated Redwood Valley 5-2 in addition to earning a 7-0 win over MACCRAY.

Update: the Mainstreeters blanked Benson/K-M-S 7-0 in the final match of the day to improve to 5-0 on the season.
