Streeter nine beats Osakis 13-5


The Sauk Centre baseball squad used their bats and legs to defeat Osakis Thursday. The Mainstreeters pounded out 16 hits and stole 12 bases on their way to a 13-5 victory.
Dylan Haskamp was 4-for-4 with four runs scored and five stolen bases to help lead the way. Will Funk was 3-for-3 with four runs and three stolen bases, and Tanner Schmiesing drove in five runs, including a three-run homer in the seventh inning.
Cole Neubert started on the mound for the Streeters, but had trouble finding the strike zone and was lifted with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the second inning. Phillip Moe got the Streeters out of the jam by getting a fly ball and Sauk trailed 2-1 after two.
But Sauk rebounded with two runs in the third when Matt Moritz singled and moved to second when Haskamp was hit by a pitch. After a double steal putting them on second and third, Funk lifted a sacrifice fly to center to score Moritz. Haskamp came around on an RBI ground out by Schmiesing. Sauk had the bases loaded with just one out, but two pop ups ended the inning.
The Streeters added three more runs in the fourth and it was the top of the order that did the producing again. Moritz singled and stole second and Haskamp singled to left. Funk then plated both with a solid single for a 5-2 lead. After stealing second and third Funk scored on an RBI groundout by Jake Haskamp, one of this three RBI on the day.
Osakis got a run back to make it 6-3 before the Streeters unloaded in the sixth and seventh. Dylan Haskamp and Funk both singled, stole a base and scored on RBI by Schmiesing and Jake Haskamp. Then in the seventh, Dylan Haskamp delivered an RBI double that scored Blaine Olson and Schmiesing followed with a three-run blast to deep left-center field for a 13-3 lead.
Osakis added two unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh off reliever Nick Wanderscheid, who tossed two innings and allowed three hits while striking out three.
The win improved the Streeters to 2-0 on the season as they headed into competition against Albany on Friday.

Dylan Haskamp was 4-for-4 with 5 steals.

6-7-8 has been a good combination for the Streeters. No. 6 is Dylan Haskamp, who is batting .750 in the first two games, No. 7 is center fielder Matt Moritz who is batting .444 and No. 8 is second baseman Adam Froseth who is batting .375.

Matt Moritz was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two steals.
