Streeter 9 wins rain-soaked affair

It took a 6-run sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie as the Sauk centre baseball squad picked up their third straight win Minday with a 9-3 win in six innings over Foley in Foley.

Aaron Olson gave Sauk a 2-1 lead when he drove a fastball to the wall in right center field for a triple, scoring Michael Knoblauch, who was running for starting pitcher Adam Polipnick. Shane Trattles added an RBI single in the fifth for a 3-1 lead as the rain began to fall heavily.

Meanwhile Polipnick was cruising on the mound. The 6'4" lefty dominated Foley hitters and after allowing a single to start the game, did not allow another hit. But he did walk five batters and two of them came around to score in the fifth. Polipnick tried to pick off a runner and threw the ball down the right field line past the outstretched glove of David Moe. The error allowed the runner to advance to third and when the throw back to the infield got away, the runner scored to make it 3-2. The next batter walked and promptly stole second and then third. With two outs and two strikes on the hitter, the runner took off for home. Surprised, Polipnick stopped mid-motion and was called for a balk. That tied the score 3-3.

But the Streeters took advantage of six walks and a hit batsman in the sixth to score six runs. Trattles relieved Polinick and pitched a scoreless sixth. The game was then called due to rain and the Streeters were awarded with the win, improving them to 6-6.

They are scheduled to play Tuesday at home against New London, but the weather forecast is not good. They also host Albany Thursday before playing BBE Friday.

Stay tuned for more baseball coverage!
