It wasn't a game for the light of heart, but fortunately for Sauk Centre fans the Mainstreeters girls' basketball team was the winner after a hard-fought Sub-Section 6AA-North semifinal game on Saturday night in Collegeville. The third-seeded Mainstreeters built a 27-14 halftime lead and survived multiple rallies by second-seeded Osakis before picking up a 49-44 win.
Now 21-5 overall, the Mainstreeters prepare for their toughest challenge of the season when they take on #1-seeded Staples-Motley in the sub-section final. Tip-off for the big game is at approximately 7:45 p.m. in Collegeville on Tuesday, March 11.
These two teams met on Feb. 18 in Staples, when the Cardinals (20-6 overall) picked up a 67-57 win. Staples-Motley went 8-2 in the Mid-State Conference to earn a tri-championship with Pequot Lakes and Detroit Lakes.
