The Sauk Centre Girls Basketball team defeated top-seeded Staples-Motley Tuesday night at St. John’s University to advance to the section finals on Friday against New London-Spicer.
The Streeter struggled early Tuesday but went on an 18-4 run late in the first half to catapult themselves to a 26-17 halftime lead. They came out strong in the second half as well and put the game away by the 8-minute mark.
The Streeters, who have been to four consecutive state tournaments in Class AA, have now beaten the Cardinals in five straight section match-ups.
Madison Moritz led the team with 13 points and senior Julie Bushard added 12. Ali Peterson had 11 and Madi Greenwaldt had nine, including seven in a row during a 10-0 run in the first half. Read more about Tuesday’s win in this week’s Herald.
