Streeters clinch!

The Sauk Centre volleyball team earned a share of the West Central Conference title with a 3-1 win at Melrose Area tonight.

Also against Melrose Area tonight, the Mainstreeters girls' swimming and diving team lost 108-76. They take part in the Section 6A True Team meet on Saturday at Jefferson high school in Alexandria.

Streeters take third!

The Sauk Centre volleyball squad ended their season in a winning fashion Saturday with a 3-2 win over Belle Plaine in the third place game at the state volleyball tournament.

There may not have been two more evenly matched teams in the tourney the Tigers took game one 25-23 before Sauk rallied to take game two 25-17. Game three was another close battle with Sauk edging the Tigers 26-24. The Streeters led that game 24-20 only to watch the Tigers tied it up, but finished them off for the win to even the match. Game four was all Belle Plaine. The game was tied 14-14 when the Tigers went on an 11-3 run to force a deciding game five. Game five was another battle as the teams traded points to a 9-9 tie. Belle Plaine took an 11-9 lead when consecutive kills by Macy Weller and Kendra Zenzen tied it up. Weller added two more kills for a 13-11 lead. Sauk earned another point on a bad set and then the Tigers scored two straight for a 14-13 Streeter lead. Sauk called a timeout and then it was Weller once again, finishing off the season and a magnificent career with a set from Jena Klaphake and a kill for a 15-13 win.

Weller finished with 23 kills as four different Streeters had at least a dozen kills. Ashley Kollman and Brianna VonWahlde each had 13 kills and Zenzen had 12. Klaphake had 59 set assists. Kollman led with 28 digs and Katie Reitsma had 27. The Streeters finish their season with just one blemish, a loss last night to Caledonia. Their record of 33-1 is the best record in school history for the volleyball squad and the second time the Streeter volleyball program has finished third. Today's win also marked the third straight year at state, finishing fourth in 2010 and fifth in 2011. Ten seniors will graduate from this year's team, but they will never be forgotten for their three trips to state and the memories they have made for Streeter fans.

For her efforts at state, Macy Weller earned a spot on the 10-member Wells Fargo All-Tournament team.

Mainstreeters volleyball opens State with the #3 seed and a 7 p.m. match

The three-time Section 6AA champion Sauk Centre Mainstreeters earned a number three seed in the upcoming Class 2A state volleyball tournament that begins this Thursday at Xcel Energy Center.

The 31-0 Mainstreeters face 29-2 St. Croix Lutheran (Section 4AA champion) in the state quarterfinals beginning at 7 p.m. The other 7 p.m. match in Class 2A that night features #2-seed Caledonia (Section 1AA champion, 25-6) against unseeded Maple Lake (Section 5AA champion, 19-11).

If the Mainstreeters win their opener, they play again at 7 p.m. the following night (Friday); if they lose they play in the consolation semifinals at 5 p.m. that night.

Marshall Area is the number one seed; Belle Plaine/Holy Family Academy is the number four seed, and Thief River Falls is the number five seed.

Overall West Central Conference volleyball champions

The Mainstreeters hold the traveling WCC volleyball trophy, which now has their name on it for the 2010, 2011 and 2012 seasons.

The Mainstreeters volleyball team defeated BOLD 3-1 in Olivia on Monday night to improve to 27-0 and win the West Central Conference playoff title for the third straight year. BOLD falls to 13-12; they are the #2 seed in Sub-Section 2A-North.

Mainstreeters take first volleyball match at Sauk Rapids

The Mainstreeters volleyball team beat Kimball Area 25-8, 25-11 in the opening round of the Sauk Rapids-Rice tournament this morning. In the second round of pool play, they face Dassel-Cokato out of the Wright County Conference.

**Update: the Mainstreeters defeated Dassel-Cokato.

**Update again: the Mainstreeters made it all the way to the championship match, where they faced Melrose Area. In three games, they defeated the Dutchmen to win the tournament title.

Mainstreeters volleyball team sweeps Paynesville Area

At Paynesville tonight, the Mainstreeters volleyball team defeated the Bulldogs 3-0 in a West Central Conference match.

Other WCC matches tonight had the following results:

Minnewaska Area 3, Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta 0

What a start!

In a rousing start to the 2012 season, the Sauk Centre Mainstreeters volleyball team raced out to a 4-0 start while winning the Albany tournament on Friday. They defeated Rocori, Milaca and Maple Lake on their way to the championship game. In the final match, they faced the host Albany Huskies and swept their way to top honors in the tournament.

Stay tuned for more coverage as the Mainstreeters head into next week. They next play at Benson next Thursday, Aug. 30, for the West Central Conference opener.

Mainstreeters volleyball jumps all over Esko in game one

Sauk Centre jumped ahead 6-0 right away and now leads 11-2 after Macy Weller pounded down a kill in game one.

**Watch out, though. Maple Lake trailed 17-6 in the opening game of their conference match up with Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa on Sept. 29. They ended up coming back to lose 25-23 in that game one. Ultimately they pushed the Jaguars to five full games before losing to B-B-E 15-13 in game five.
