Volleyball, swimming and diving teams pick up wins

The Sauk Centre Mainstreeters volleyball team won for the 12th time of the season when they swept visiting Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City last night in a West Central Conference match. Sauk Centre's next volleyball match is a make-up one next Monday at Montevideo (3-7-1, 2-3 WCC). They host Yellow Medicine East the following night.

In their second home match of the season, the Mainstreeters girls' swimming and diving team blasted Morris Area/Minnewaska Area/Benson/Chokio-Alberta 102-73 on Thursday night. Hannah Berg took first place in the diving competition with a career-high 130 points. Jenna Kill earned a Section 6A berth in the 500 freestyle. Tiana Molitor and Hanna Waldhart each won two events to pace Sauk Centre. Sauk Centre's next action in the pool is next Tuesday when Montevideo comes to town. The Thunderhawks are 1-3 in dual meets this year with a 96-89 win over Albany on Sept. 5.

NOTE about tonight's game: the 8th-ranked Sauk Centre Mainstreeters football team hosts BOLD in a key West Central Conference meeting with a 7 p.m. kickoff. The Sauk Centre Sports Boosters is hosting a tailgating/grilling party beforehand from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with a special free will offering in support of the athletic programs. BOLD is 1-2 overall and lost a close heartbreaker to Paynesville Area last Friday 20-18. Their win came against Minnewaska Area in week two by a 17-7 score.

The girls' tennis match (home) vs. MA/CA was postponed to next Monday due to court conditions. Earlier this afternoon the match was called because of rain.

Mainstreeters win big in home swimming and diving opener

The Mainstreeters girls' swimming and diving team defeated visiting Little Falls tonight 102-82 in the home opener tonight. They have another home meet this week on Thursday, when Morris Area/Minnewaska Area/Chokio-Alberta visits for a 6 p.m. meet.

At Minnewaska Area, the Mainstreeters girls' tennis team suffered their first West Central Conference loss of the year, losing to the Lakers 6-1. They host Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta/Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley (3-8, 1-3 WCC) this Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in another conference match.

Mainstreeter tennis splits at LP-GE

The Mainstreeters girls' tennis team went 1-1 today at a triangular in Long Prairie. They're now 11-6 overall this season.

Against Pequot Lakes, Sauk Centre lost 6-1. Against LP-GE/USA, they won 5-2.

What an improbable comeback!

Trailing 29-14 with around 6 minutes left in the game, the Sauk Centre Mainstreeters put up one of the most impressive comebacks in football you could ask for.

Final tonight from Big Cat Stadium in Morris: Sauk Centre 36, Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta 35!

The Mainstreeters are 3-0 for the first time since starting the 2007 season with a 5-0 record.

Thursday night action: girls' tennis wins at Benson

The Sauk Centre girls' tennis team improved to 4-0 in the West Central Conference with a 5-2 win over a good Benson/Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg team. The Mainstreeters won at 1, 2 and 3-singles and then at 1 and 3-doubles.

A volleyball update from Olivia: the Mainstreeters won the first two games before the Warriors took game three.

*Update: the Mainstreeters took over first place in the West Central Conference with a 3-1 win over the BOLD Warriors. Game scores were 25-18, 25-20 17-25, 25-15. Up next: the Sauk Rapids-Rice tournament on Saturday.

No word yet on how the cross country teams fared at New London-Spicer.
