WHAT AN EFFORT! Mainstreeters dismantle Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 48-0 on the gridiron

...on Long Prairie's field no less.

What an incredible performance by the Mainstreeters football team in tonight's Section 6AA semifinal game against the higher-seeded Thunder.

No time to expand too much, but the Mainstreeters led 7-0 after one quarter, 27-0 at halftime and kept pouring it on into the second half. They led 48-0 heading into the 4th quarter.

Roosevelt Austin led the Mainstreeters with 179 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

Up next: a date with #1-seeded Pierz next Friday night in the Fargo Dome with a 5:30 p.m. kickoff. Sauk Centre is 4-6 overall; Pierz is 9-1.

Fun fact: the Mainstreeters were the #7 seed at the beginning of the Section 6AA playoffs. From what I've seen on the statewide scoreboard, they are one of only two #7 seeds in the state who earned a section final appearance. Cloquet in Section 7AAA is the other one.

The last time Sauk Centre was in a section final in football was in 2004, when they lost to Staples-Motley in the Section 6AAA final and finished 9-2 overall. They tied Melrose Area for the West Central North Conference championship.
