Mainstreeters volleyball wins 7th straight playoff opener

Dating back to the 2005 season, the Sauk Centre Mainstreeters volleyball team has now won every playoff opener.

In tonight's home match to begin the Sub-Section 6AA-West playoffs, the Mainstreeters defeated visiting Minnewaska Area 25-11, 25-16, 25-11 to advance to next Tuesday night's semifinal match at Sauk Rapids-Rice high school. The match will begin at 6:30 p.m.

In Albany tonight, the 4th-seeded Huskies defeated visiting Pierz (#5 seed) 25-17, 25-22, 25-12.

Albany (19-7) and Sauk Centre (25-4) will square off next Tuesday night. The last time these two teams met on Oct. 13, the Mainstreeters prevailed in a five-game marathon at Albany to complete a perfect trip through the West Central North Conference.

Melrose Area (#3 seed) and Little Falls (#2 seed) also won their quarterfinal round matches.

**Special note: the Mainstreeters football team's playoff game at Long Prairie on Saturday night will have a 7 p.m. kickoff. (Not 6 p.m. as was previously announced.)
