Are you ready for some football? Sauk Centre Mainstreeters football travels to Olivia for the 2010 grid season opener

The Sauk Centre Mainstreeters football team begins their 2010 season with a road game at BOLD, in the town of Olivia, for a 7:00pm game tomorrow (Thursday) night. Olivia is 25 miles south of Willmar on Highway 71. Their high school is located on the far southeast corner of town.

The game marks the head coaching debut of Charlie Warring, who was a long-time coach at the helm of the Mainstreeters baseball program. He has 13 seniors on the varsity roster who are ready to lead the Streeters to a successful season.

The Mainstreeters went 2-7 last year, starting off strong with two wins in their first three games (and a competitive loss to powerful Albany in week two) but then were plagued with injuries and lost their final six games.

BOLD, meanwhile, went 7-3 in 2009 and won the West Central South Conference title with a 6-1 record. They lost 30-7 at Melrose Area in the 2009 season opener.

**Sauk Herald scouting report on Class AA BOLD:
Two senior running backs both are back after each churned out 1,000 yard rushing seasons last year. Brent O' Halloran (#38) and Alex Steffel (#22) are the guys to watch in the backfield as Sauk Centre's defense works to get active across the line of scrimmage.

O'Halloran (5'7" 180) is a senior fullback/linebacker who tallied 1,361 rushing yards and scored 20 touchdowns. Steffel (5'10" 170) is a senior halfback/linebacker who rushed for 1,262 yards and seven touchdowns.

Quarterback Kyle Athmann (5-11, 160), a junior, also returns after throwing for 527 yards and five touchdown in 95 attempts.

The Warriors are the favorites to repeat as West Central South Conference champions again with 10 starters back.

Other offensive starters back include senior tackles Andrew Brooks (6-3, 210) and Reed Nelson (6-2, 230).

On defense, Steffel, and seniors Drew Diekman (6-1, 170) and Logan Erickson (5-8, 175) return at linebacker. Brooks is back at defensive end where he had 47 tackles and a team-high six sacks a season ago. Zach Remillard (5-8, 145), a junior, is a returning defensive back after leading the Warriors with three interceptions to go along with his 40 tackles.

BOLD head coach Steve Solem is in his 24th season at the helm of the Warriors program and has an overall record of 201-59. He coached the Warriors into the Prep Bowl on two occasions in the early 1990s. They had success in the early part of the 2000s as members of Class AAA before enrollment declines brought them down to Class AA in 2003.

In 2004, BOLD emerged as Section 3AA champions and played into the state semi-finals, where they lost in the final minute in a 13-7 battle to Eden Valley-Watkins.
