Mainstreeters volleyball three-peats at Morris tournament

The Mainstreeters won all five matches they played at the University of Minnesota-Morris today.

In the championship, the Mainstreeters (6-0) faced the very tough Hancock Owls who finished 2nd in Section 6A last year and return the core of that team. The Mainstreeters won 25-20, 25-14 to win the tournament for the third year in a row.

Coach Klaphake reported, "The Owls have a 6'2" senior outside hitter (Kendra Schmigdal) who's an imposing figure at the net. She's very good. We did a nice job getting the blocks on her."

Sauk Centre defeated Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta, Long Prairie-Grey Eagle, Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley and Wilmont (S.D.) along their way to the title match.

"Hancock was playing very well heading into the finals," Klaphake added. "We played our best match of the day against them."

Macy Weller and Krista Primus were both named to the All-Tournament team. Weller was voted as MVP out of all athletes.

Up next: a home match on Tuesday against undefeated Melrose Area.
