Polipnick hits epic blast in 13-10 win over Albany

Adam Polipnick hit a majestic home run with a runner on in the sixth inning Monday afternoon to give Sauk Centre a 13-10 lead, and Shane Trattles pitched a 1-2-3 seventh for the win as the Mainstreeter baseball team got back on the winning track after dropping both games of a doubleheader last Thursday to top-ranked St. Cloud Cathedral.

After the game teammates Tyler Berling and Shay Mieczkowski chased down the ball Polipnick drove up into the wind and over the center field fence, which measures 365 feet from home plate. They said the ball landed more than 450 feet from home plate and rolled another 75 feet for good measure, making it a 500-plus foot shot.

Really? Is that possible?

Polipnick stands 6'4" and weighs in the 220-230 pound. He has been known to pepper the fence in batting practice. On Thursday the wind was gusting out to left field at about a 30 mph clip. Polipnick got a high fastball from Albany pitcher Kyle Lieser and "got it all."

Following the game assistant coach Brandon Wolf, who was coaching on the field adjacent to the varsity field, said he heard the "ping" looked up and saw the ball land "about 80 feet beyond the fence."

With the fence measured at 365, plus another 80, that puts it at a 445 foot blast, according to Wolf's estimation. Add that to Berling and Mieczkowski's 450-foot estimation and the two corroborate each other.

Guess that means Polipnick really did "get it all."
