A play-by-play of last night's big win for the Streeters gridiron team

EARLY IN THE GAME...
Sauk's Pete Sprengler gets a fumble recovery - Blake Johnsrud coughs it up - SC ball on the Lakers' side of the field.

1st Mainstreeters' carry of the night goes to Michael Knoblauch for 2 yards.

Austin breaks open and gets inside the 10 yard line, first down and goal to go. Penalty flag, holding on Sauk Centre wipes out the gain.

Streeters win!

Terrence Ellis streaks down field in tonight's win. Ellis put together another great night running the ball. The fleet-footed senior scored for Sauk and helped lead them tot heir first win of the 2011 season, a 26-13 win over Minnewaska.
Great job by the Mainstreeters tonight, beating Minnewaska 26-13 for their first win of the season.
Sauk played well on both sides of the ball and got touchdown runs from Terrence Ellis, Patrick Knoblauch and Roosevelt Austin.
Patrick Knoblauch hooked up with Seth Otte for a long pass to lead to Sauk's first TD by Austin, who leads the squad and continues to put up solid numbers.
Otte also had a great diving catch for a Streeter first down and made a nice defensive play to break up a long pass on a Minnewaska threat.
On defense, Sam Fischer, Darin Bushard, Devan Fischer and Pete Sprengeler all came up with big plays for Sauk to keep the Lakers at bay.
A great win for a good group of kids. Hopefully they can carry it over into next week.

Mainstreeters football takes an early 6-0 lead against Minnewaska!

Terrance Ellis scored on a 16-yard touchdown run on a misdirection play to put Sauk Centre ahead 6-0 with 3:13 on the clock.

On the next defensive series, the Mainstreeters held and forced the Lakers to punt with 1:00 left in the first quarter.

**Update late in the first half...Sauk Centre is ahead 14-7, but Minnewaska has the ball with goal to go inside the Mainstreeters' 10-yard line.

HALFtime: Sauk Centre 14, Minnewaska Area 13. The Streeters blocked a PAT kick on the Lakers' second touchdown.

Final score: Sauk Centre 26, Minnewaska Area 13. The Lakers were limited to 10 yards of offense in the second half!

Mainstreeters volleyball sweeps Albany - Swimming and Diving dominates MA/CA/MA

The Mainstreeters volleyball team won games one and two by identical 25-20 scores. They led 23-11 in game two before the Albany Huskies went on a 7-0 run to make it interesting.

In game three, the Mainstreeters jumped all over Albany, and in a matter of just five minutes, they led 10-1 after Macy Weller and Kendra Zenzen each earned solo ace blocks. The Mainstreeters won game three 25-12!

To start the final game, Macy Weller's kill made it 3-1 and started an 8-0 run that blew it open. Albany was struggling mightily with ball control and the Mainstreeters were making them pay. Jena Klaphake's ace serve put the Maroon up 7-1, a point that was followed by a kill through a block by Zenzen.

Senior Ashley Gruber was selected as the Gerard's Player of the Game. About her play tonight, Coach Klaphake commented, "Ashley is such a great athlete. She's very smart and doesn't hurt us with mistakes when she's on the floor. She implemented our game plan and was a big reason why we beat Albany tonight."

The Mainstreeters swimming and diving team won big over Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta/Minnewaska Area. They are now 5-0 in head-to-head competition this year.

Exciting action in store for Mainstreeter fans in Sauk Centre tonight

On tap tonight at the Sauk Centre high school are two events featuring conference clashes in volleyball and swimming and diving.

The Mainstreeters volleyball team hosts rival Albany in a key West Central North Conference battle between teams given the nod in the preseason as top competitors for the conference crown. Albany (9-3 overall) trails Sauk Centre (11-2 overall) by one match in the standings.

Down the hall from the gymnasium at the pool, the Mainstreeters swimming and diving team will duel with Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta/Minnewaska Area beginning at 6 p.m.

Swimming and diving squad wins at Rocori

The Mainstreeters are now 5-0 in dual meet competition this season after earning a big 114-72 win at Rocori.

The swimming and diving team is in action on Thursday night this week, when they host conference rival Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta/Minnewaska Area for a 6 p.m. match.

Mainstreeters girls' tennis rebounds from yesterday's loss with a close win over New London-Spicer

Final on the home courts today: Sauk Centre 4, New London-Spicer 2. One of the doubles matches was rained out with Sauk Centre leading in sets, according to Coach Jarvi.

The match will count as a conference win for the Mainstreeters, who are now 11-5 overall.

The Mainstreeters next play at Osakis on Thursday this week (4:30 p.m.) against a state-ranked 12-0 Silverstreaks team that is favored to win Section 6A.

Mainstreeters girls' tennis suffers big loss at Melrose Area - Volleyball sweeps Paynesville

The Sauk Centre Mainstreeters girls' tennis team lost for the second time of the season to I-94 rival Melrose Area in a West Central North Conference match tonight. The final score was 6-1 in favor of the host Dutchmen, who effectively clinched the conference title outright with the win.

Coach Jarvi reported that the Mainstreeters had their chances in three of the six losses but couldn't pull off a win in any of them.

In a non-conference match at Paynesville, the Mainstreeters volleyball team won 3-0 to improve to 11-2 overall. They host Albany on Thursday night in a conference match.

Mainstreeters swimming and diving takes 5th at Park Rapids

The Mainstreeters tallied 220 team points at the Park Rapids Area Invitational on Saturday, good for fifth place out of seven teams at the meet.

Mainstreeters volleyball takes 11th at Sauk Rapids-Rice Invite

At a 16-team volleyball invitational on Saturday, the Mainstreeters volleyball team finished 11th after going 2-2 on the day. They are now 10-2 overall, including a 3-0 mark in the West Central North Conference.

Match results for the Mainstreeters were:
Little Falls 29, 28 - Sauk Centre 27, 26
Sauk Centre 25, 25 - Holdingford 15, 15
Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 21, 25, 19 - Sauk Centre 25, 18, 17
Sauk Centre 2, Kimball Area 0 (11th place match)

Up next: a trip to Paynesville Area to face the Bulldogs (0-9) in a non-conference match on Monday, Sept 19. B/C-squad action begins at 6 p.m. with the varsity to follow. This is a change from the initial season schedule, which had this match scheduled for Sept. 26. Paynesville will have Homecoming coronation that night, so the match was moved ahead one week.
