Fusion set more pool records
By Bryan Zollman
Pretty soon a select few of the Fusion swim team will have their names on every record board in every pool throughout Central Minnesota.
The Fusion set four more pool records last night in another great performance in St. Michael. Jay Zachman had a hand in all four records, including the 200 individual medley. The team's three relay squads also set pool records. Shay Mieczkowski, Eddie Bosl, Jacob Koetter and Gregg Stein also now have their names etched on the record board.
The team competes at the state true team meet this weekend as they continue to put together one of their better seasons in recent history. Check back for updates. We're also working on a video interview with Co-Head Coach James Schreiner.......

Brett Favre made history tonight
By Bryan Zollman
Brett Favre had the ball on the 40-yard line in Saints territory with 30 seconds to play in a tie game. All we needed was a field goal. He rolled out.....15 yards of turf in front of him, all he had to do was run 30 feet and step out of bounds. 30 feet. Thats a third of the way down the baseline in baseball. It's shorter than a trip to the bathroom.
But he decides to throw the ball across the grain....and does exactly the last thing a smart quarterback would ever do in that situation...turn the ball over.
Blame it on the fumbles, blame it on the play calling, blame it on the refs....
We supposedly have the greatest quarterback in the history of the game with the ball in his hand on the oppsoinsg team's 40-yard line with 30 seconds to go and all we need is a field goal and he couldn't get it done.
Brett Favre made history tonight. He proved he is far from being considered amongst the greatest quarterbacks of all time.

The Vikings...The Stomach Punch Syndrome
So here we are January 24th and the Vikings are in the NFC championship game. Backtrack twelve months and tell yourself that. Funny thing is, I don't know how to feel about it. On one hand I am very excited about what lies ahead, but the rational side of me refuses to get too excited about a team that constantly lets everyone down. I guess that says more about my state as a Minnesota fan than that of the Vikings team this year. I guess I am just sick of the proverbial "punch in the stomach moments" that this team seems so adept at.
Think about it, 4 Super Bowls...4 losses, The Cowboys Hail Mary Game, The Darrin Nelson Game, The Herschel Walker Trade, 1998 NFC Championship (My Stomach Still Hurts, I was 11 during the '98 season and I bled purple) The Dimitrius Underwood Draft, 41-0 NFC Championship, The Sex Boat, The Whizzinator, Mike Tice scalping Super Bowl Tickets....Mike Tice for that matter. And thats just all off the top of my head.

Fearsome foursome
Congrats to Shay Mieczkowski, Jay Zachman, Eddie Bosl and Jacob Koetter of the Sauk Centre-Melrose swim team.
The foursome swam in the 200-yard medley relay for the first time this season and ended up setting a pool record in Melrose and breaking the Sauk Centre School record. Their winning time was 1:44.82.
Nice work, boys!

Don't forget about the Fusion
By Bryan Zollman
While the Sauk Centre girls' basketball team has hogged the headlines, the co-op boys swimming squad of Sauk Centre-Melrose has quietly put together a great first half of their season.
The Fusion are undefeated in dual meets and had a huge win last week against Alexandria. Anytime you can beat a big school, its a big deal.
Said head coach James Schreiner: "This was a signature win for us."
The turning point came in the 100 freestyle where the Fusion took the top three spots with Jacob Koetter winning the race. Shay Mieczkowski is probably the best swimmer the Fusion have, but they are loaded with talent. Should be fun to watch them the rest of the season...check Tuesday's Herald for more on the Fusion.
