Mainstreeters battle their hearts out at Alexandria girls' tennis Quad

Though they're no longer undefeated, the Sauk Centre Mainstreeters girls' tennis team faced some top notch competition and played very well at the Alexandria Quadrangular today. Match results were: a 6-1 loss to Alexandria, a 5-2 loss to Holy Family Catholic and an exciting 4-3 win over Crookston.

Against once-beaten Alexandria, who racked up a 7-1 record heading into the quad, the Mainstreeters picked up a win by Bethany Ellis at two-singles. Three of the six losses were in third set tiebreakers.

Holy Family Catholic, a private school from the Twin Cities, Bethany Ellis (12-0) held on to her undefeated winning streak by picking up one of the two wins for the Mainstreeters. The other came from Hope Schwinghamer.

Against the Pirates in the final match of the day, the Mainstreeters picked up match-clinching points in tiebreakers during the three-singles and one-doubles matches. Kathryn Macey at three singles came back from being down 3-6 in a seven-point tiebreaker to win. Then Jessica and Callie Rodenbiker (one doubles) pulled off a third set tiebreaker to hand the match to Sauk Centre.

The Mainstreeters take an 8-2 overall record (2-0 West Central Conference) up against Minnewaska Area next Tuesday on the home courts. Action begins at 5 p.m.

Sauk wins 39-6, improves to 2-0

Sauk Centre has made it two in a row...two in a row lopsided wins as they trounced Montevideo tonight 39-6. It's the second lopsided win for the Streeters as they improved to 2-0 on the season.
Trent Berscheit caught two touchdown passes from 39 and 43 yards out and Roosevelt Austin gained more than 200 yards on the ground for the second straight game and senior quarterback Patrick Knoblauch also ran for two TDs and threw for 150 yards.
Sauk got on top early, scoring the first 20 points. But Montevideo opened the second half with a touchdown. But Sauk answered with Berscheit, when he connected on the first of his two TD catches.
The defense also did their part with three interceptions. Berscheit, Knoblauch and Clay Deters all came down the picks as the defense held Montevideo to 6 points. Deters' pick was especially huge as Montevideo was driving and he picked off a long pass on the 5 yard line and returned it back near midfield.
Sauk's win improves them to 2-0. They will take on Morris in Morris next Friday.

Sauk Centre drubs Albany in home swimming and diving meet

The final score read Sauk Centre 110, Albany 76 in a non-conference dual meet tonight.

The Mainstreeters girls' swimming and diving team improved to 2-0 overall with the win. They host a very solid Alexandria team this Thursday in another home meet.

In a home match to open the West Central Conference schedule, the Mainstreeters girls' tennis team edged an improved Montevideo squad by a 4-3 score. They make the same road trip that football made last week when they head down to Granite Falls this Thursday for a second WCC meet. Their opponent will be the Yellow Medicine East Sting.

...and last, but not least, the Mainstreeters volleyball team won in three sets against visiting Minnewaska Area in their second WCC match of the year. They travel to Paynesville Area on Thursday looking to improve on their 6-0 overall mark achieved so far.
