In a non-conference game at Montevideo tonight, the Sauk Centre Mainstreeters girls' basketball team defeated the Thunderhawks 69-60. Their next game is next Tuesday at Osakis. The Silverstreaks are 4-2 overall; tonight they lost to Melrose Area 49-40 in Melrose.
Sauk Centre is 4-1 overall and 0-0 in the West Central North Conference. They begin conference play next Thursday, when they entertain long-time rival Albany at the home gymnasium. Albany is 3-2 overall and lost to #2-ranked Braham tonight 91-47.
No word yet on how the Mainstreeter boys' basketball team fared at Montevideo.
**Update on Saturday...the boys' basketball team lost 75-41 to the Thunderhawks. They were paced by Nick Adams' 11 points. The scoring for Sauk Centre was as follows: Seth Otte 2, Patrick Knoblauch 7, Josh Buschette 1, Nick Adams 11, Dylan Kohorst 2, Terrance Ellis 6, Travis Rieland 10, Sam Fischer 2.
The Mainstreeters played a great first half, trailing only 35-27. They were limited to only 14 points in the second half, though, while Montevideo put up 40. Sauk Centre shot 15-for-44 from the field, while the Thunderhawks went a robust 28-of-42 from the floor and 9-of-17 beyond the arc.
Jena Klaphake and Macy Weller led the Streeter girls' team with 12 points each. Lexi Berscheit hit two three-pointers to help her amass 9 points as the third-leading scorer.

Mainstreeter boys', girls' basketball teams both suffer first losses of the season
Final in girls' action: Alexandria 60, Sauk Centre 44. Against a very good Cardinals team, the Mainstreeters suffered over 20 turnovers and couldn't get any breaks against a trapping half court defense.
Final in boys' action: B-B-E 59, Sauk Centre 50. Against the #1-ranked (Class A) Jaguars, the Mainstreeters hung tough the entire game and had a 14-point second-half deficit cut down to five points with around 5 minutes left.

The lone home contest involves the Sauk Centre/Melrose wrestlers hosting a triangular that started at 5 p.m. at the high school.
The Prairie Centre Area North Stars host Section 6A rival Wadena-Deer Creek in Long Prairie; the Fusion boys' swimmers are in Park Rapids; the girls' basketball team is in Alexandria; and the boys' basketball team faces #1-ranked (Class A) Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa in Brooten.
