Cross country season ends at sections

Sauk Centre's cross country season ended today at the Section 6A meet, with no one advancing to state.

Kelli Lewis was the lead runner for the Mainstreeters. She finished 20th out of 135 runners with a time of 16:39. Joe Gerhartz led the boys' squad with a 61st place finish out of 142 runners.

Today's competition was held at the Long Prairie Country Club with 19 schools in action.

Ellis battles at state tennis meet

Bethany Ellis was one of three seniors on this year's Mainstreeters girls' tennis team.

Bethany Ellis's run at the Class 1A state tennis meet started out with a very competitive 4-6, 3-6 loss to #3-seeded Lauren Kozikowski of the Breck School in her opening match today.

In the consolation bracket, Ellis lost 4-6, 2-6 to Claire Christian of United South Central school.

For the Mainstreeters girls' tennis team, losing Ellis to graduation will leave a big hole to fill. Her strong play at four, two and one-singles over the last three seasons was a big part of why they were able to win 44 team matches.

Congratulations, Bethany, on a superb senior season and state tournament berth!

Streeters dominate Lakers 40-7

The Sauk Centre football team avenged a loss to Minnewaska on homecoming night by eliminating the Lakers Tuesday in a 40-7 win in Morris. The win pits the Streeters against top-seeded Paynesville in Paynesville on Saturday. Paynesville beat the Streeters 60-6 earlier this season, but head coach Charlie Warring said the Streeters will head into Paynesville with a different attitude and a different game plan this time around. For more on Tuesday's big win be sure to grab a copy of this week's Sauk Centre Herald which hits newsstands Wednesday afternoon.

Playoff game change

The Minnewaska vs. Sauk Centre Section 5AA football playoff game tomorrow night will be held on the University of Minnesota-Morris campus at Big Cat Stadium.

Minnewaska, the number four seed, was to host the game, but Veterans Field is still flooded on the south end as of Monday afternoon.

Sauk Centre (4-4), the number five seed, is gunning for their first playoff win since 2011 when they were runners-up in Section 6AA.
