Mainstreeters get knocked around in 54-6 loss at New London-Spicer

On Homecoming night for New London-Spicer, the Sauk Centre Mainstreeters football team seemed to have a good thing going after they led 6-0 through one quarter tonight.

Then the wheels fell off. And they came off quickly.

The Wildcats (5-1, 3-0 West Central North Conference) responded to the 6-0 deficit to score 21 points in both the second and third quarters and then for good measure, tacked on another 12 points in the fourth.

The Mainstreeters gained 146 total yards, but over one-fourth of them came on one play, a touchdown run for 38 yards by Roosevelt Austin.

NL-S ran for 218 yards and passed for 77 more while being plus-two in turnovers. Sauk Centre yielded one interception and one lost fumble.

Streeters clinch! Volleyball grabs piece of conference title with a 3-0 win against NL-S tonight

The Sauk Centre Mainstreeters volleyball team is now 16-3 overall and 8-0 in the West Central North Conference with two matches remaining on the league schedule. They have a two-match lead on second-place Melrose, thanks to their win over the Dutchmen on Tuesday night.

They've officially clinched a share of the West Central North Conference title for the second year in a row!

In a battle of unbeaten teams in the West Central Conference, the Sauk Centre Mainstreeters swimming and diving team lost 109-71 to powerhouse Melrose Area. They next host Holdingford for "Pack the Pool" night on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 6 p.m.

Mainstreeters sweep Melrose in volleyball - take a two-match lead over the Dutchmen in the WCCN standings - Swimming and Diving and Girls' Tennis also win

The Sauk Centre Mainstreeters volleyball team won in three games at Melrose tonight 25-20, 25-22, 25-16 while improving to 7-0 in the West Central North Conference standings. The Dutchmen were trying to move into a tie for first place tonight, but they now sit at 5-2 (2nd) with three matches remaining.

The Mainstreeters swimming and diving team defeated Staples-Motley in a home dual. I don't have a final score yet.

The Mainstreeters girls' tennis team defeated section rival Pierz 7-0 in a home match today. The Mainstreeters will take a 14-7 overall record into next week's Section 6A playoffs.

At the home cross country meet at the Sauk Centre Golf Club, senior Jacob Gerhartz won the boys' race with a time of 16:52. Albany won both the boys' and girls' divisions.

In girls' tennis action, Osakis edged Melrose Area 4-3 for the second time of the season. The Silverstreaks most likely will be the #1 seed in Section 6A, with Melrose following at #2.

Mainstreeters cross country hosts meet today at Sauk Centre Golf Club

Teams included are Wheaton/Herman-Norcross, Albany, Benson, Long Prairie-Grey Eagle, Minnewaska Area, Rocori, Staples-Motley and Wadena-Deer Creek.

The varsity run begins at 4:30 p.m.

They did it! Mainstreeters volleyball knocks off B-B-E in five games tonight

For the second year in a row, the Sauk Centre vs. Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa border battle on the volleyball court went the distance in five games. Tonight in Belgrade, the Mainstreeters snapped a three-match losing streak to the Jaguars in a 3-2 in after taking game five 15-9.

Last season in the 2010 opener at Sauk Centre, the Jaguars prevailed in a five-game barn burner with a 15-10 win in the fifth game.

It was quite fitting that game one opened with both teams trading punches at eachother's throat, as Macy Weller and Brittany Roelike both ripped off sharp-looking kills to start it out tied 1-1. An incredible 15 ties followed that in game one at 2-2, 3-3, 4-4, 5-5, 6-6 and 7-7...and then at 9-9, 10-10, 11-11, 12-12, 15-15, 16-16, 17-17, 19-19 and 20-20. That's 16 ties! The Mainstreeters pulled away for a 25-22 win in the opening game with three kills, a double block and a B-B-E hit out of bounds.

Up next: Coming on Tuesday night (tomorrow) is basically the West Central North Conference championship, in which the Mainstreeters will travel to crosstown rival Melrose Area for a 7:30 p.m. match. The Dutchmen have a shot at tying Sauk Centre for the lead in the WCCN, while the Mainstreeters can all but lock up at least a share for the title if they beat Melrose.

It's exciting to see such great volleyball play out weeks before the postseason begins.

A huge border battle takes place Monday night in Belgrade

It's the revision of the Sauk Centre vs. Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa rivalry in volleyball on Monday night. The varsity match begins at 7 p.m. in Belgrade at the B-B-E high school.
