Mainstreeters football team is 2-0

The long road home from Montevideo wasn't quite so bad tonight after the Sauk Centre Mainstreeters football team picked up a 43-27 win over the Thunderhawks. It was an impressive win considering that Montevideo led 7-6 at halftime. The Mainstreeters scored 14 points in the game's final minutes to break up what was a very tense game.

Now 2-0, Sauk Centre travels to Big Cat Stadium in Morris to face the Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta Tigers for week three action.

The Tigers are 0-2 after getting hammered by Paynesville Area 38-14 on MA/CA's home turf. The Bulldogs improved to 2-0 with the win.

Streeter volleyball back in state polls

It didn't take long for Sauk Centre's volleyball team to land itself back in the Class 2A state rankings, a place they remained for the entire 2012 season when they finished third at the state tournament in November.

In yesterday's polls, the Mainstreeters (5-0) were ranked 15th. Not far in front of them is Dassel-Cokato, sitting at 12th, a team that could challenge Sauk Centre in a section championship if both win their respective sub-sections.

One other West Central Conference team is receiving votes for state rankings. BOLD (3-0) is 17th in the Class 1A rankings. The Warriors finished as Section 2A runners-up last year and advanced to the state tournament in 2011.
