The Sauk Centre girls' basketball team defended an earlier defeat to Osakis with a 46-39 win Saturday in the sub-section 6AA North semi-finals.
Macy Weller had 18 points and Jena Klaphake added 13 for the Streeters, who improved to 25-2 with the big win and will now face top-seeded Staples-Motley who beat Albany 62-57 earlier Saturday afternoon.
Liz Ellens added 11 points for Sauk, who trailed at the half 22-20, but put up a strong defensive effort int he second half while making some key baskets.

The sub-section championship is Tuesday at 6 p.m. at St. John's University. They'll face top-seeded Staples-Motley, who knocked Albany out of the tournament with a 62-57 win in the other semifinal.

Barreto 4th in 500 Free at state

Macy Weller had 17 points and the Mainstreeters shot well from three-point range Thursday to beat Melrose 71-47 in the Sub-Section 6AA North playoff opener. Weller added six rebounds and six steals.
Sauk built a stead half-time lead thanks to a potent three-point shooting attack. Ali Peterson, Weller, Jena Klaphake and Liz Ellens all made three-pointers within a four-minute span.
Brianna Von Wahlde turned in a solid performance with 13 points. Ellens finished with 11. Klaphake led the team with 5 assists.
The Streeters will face Osakis (22-3) on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at St. John's University. The Silverstreaks beat Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 65-41 Thursday. Osakis defeated the Streeters (24-2) earlier this season 49-40. Also advancing in Sub-Section 6AA North was top-seeded Staples-Motley (20-5) who defeated Holdingford 83-50 Thursday. They will face Albany (24-3) at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John's University. Albany beat Pierz 74-45 Thursday.
The top four seeds are a combined 90-13 heading into Saturday's play --- which means two very good teams will be going home.

Mainstreeters boys' basketball gets number two seed
They open the Sub-Section 6AA-North playoffs with a home game on Thursday, Mar. 7 at 7 p.m. The opponent will be seventh-seeded Holdingford.

Boys' basketball team leads Ashby at halftime
At Ashby tonight in a non-conference game between two teams who both have 18 wins coming in, the Sauk Centre Mainstreeters boys' basketball team has a 40-29 lead at halftime. Patrick Knoblauch leads the Streeters with 19 points and three three-pointers.
