The Prairie Centre Area North Stars boys hockey team fell in a home game to Willmar 7-2 on Friday night. The Cardinals (13-7-1) led 4-0 after two periods were complete. The North Stars (8-15-1) travel to Pequot Lakes next Tuesday night to face Northern Lakes. The Lightning (12-8-2), who are also in Section 6A, edged the North Stars 4-3 on January 25 in Long Prairie.

Prairie Centre Area boys hockey suffers tough overtime loss at Morris/Benson Area tonight
The Morris/Benson Area Storm boys hockey team protected its home ice at Lee Expo Arena in Morris tonight with a thrilling 5-4 overtime win at the expense of the Prairie Centre Area North Stars. Morris/Benson Area is now riding a seven-match unbeaten streak, with their last loss coming on January 18.
The North Stars fall to 8-14-1 overall, while the Storm improves to 14-5-1. Both teams are in Section 6A.
Prairie Centre Area has no time for rest, as they prepare to host Willmar tomorrow night (Feb. 11) at the Sauk Centre Ice Arena. The puck drops at 5:15pm for the B-squad game, with the varsity to follow. Willmar is 12-7-3 overall and 8-3-3 in the Central Lakes Conference.
Also tomorrow night, the Mainstreeters boys and girls basketball teams will travel to Milaca for a boys/girls West Central North Conference double-header. Tip-off for the girls varsity game is at 6:00pm, with the varsity boys game to follow at about 7:30pm.
Wrestling fans are encouraged to make the short trip down I-94 to Albany High School, where an eight-team tournament begins at 4:00pm on Friday. Sauk Centre/Melrose Area is included, along with the host Huskies, Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City, Becker, Montevideo, Mora, Osakis, and St. Cloud Apollo.

Streeters' boys, girls basketball teams both beat Foley in conference action - Sub-Section 6AA-East #1 boys' seed is officially up for grabs - North Stars beat W-DC
The Foley Falcons fell to both basketball teams from Sauk Centre in West Central North Conference action last night, with the boys losing 69-54 and the girls losing 70-34.
The Melrose Dutchmen boys basketball team picked up an improbable 83-82 win at "Fort Knox" in New London last night, knocking the Wildcats into a first place tie in the conference with Long Prairie-Grey Eagle at 9-2.
For the Streeters boys basketball team, their final six games of the regular season are all in conference play. Three are against sub-section opponents, with the one on Friday, February 25 probably being the game that will determine who will be the #1 seed in Sub-Section 6AA-East. That night, Sauk Centre hosts NL-S. However, three nights before that, the Streeters have to win a game in Melrose. If Sauk Centre goes 0-2 in those games, they might end up anywhere from the #4 seed to the #2 seed.

Sauk Centre/Melrose wrestlers placed fourth out of nine teams at Fertile-Beltrami Tournament - North Stars hockey finishes with a 2-2 tie
The Sauk Centre/Melrose Area wrestling team finished in fourth place at the Fertile-Beltrami Tournament on Saturday. Their next action is next Tuesday, February 8, when they host Paynesville Area at Melrose. The JV action begins at 6:00pm.
Finishing in the top two places in their respective weight divisions for Sauk Centre/Melrose were: 135 - Corey Messer took second, losing a tough 8-7 decision in the championship. 145 - Devan Fischer placed second after losing a 14-1 major decision in the championship.
