More action from this past week from Mainstreeters baseball and track and field

An awesome day for the Mainstreeters track and field teams - girls' squad is sub-section champions

A brief run down...the Sauk Centre Mainstreeters girls' track and field team won the Sub-Section 6A-1 meet at Minnewaska Area high school today.

The Mainstreeters boys' track and field team also earned playoff hardware, taking the runner-up spot in the sub-section.

Somewhere between 15 to 20 boys' and girls' athletes from Sauk Centre qualified for the Section 6A meet, which is next Thursday, June 2 at Minnesota State University-Moorhead.

More coming later tonight and also early Friday morning. It has been an incredible day for me, splitting time between Greystone Golf Club, the Herald office, the sub-section track and field meet and with family.

Sub-Section baseball seedings are in, Streeters baseball plays Albany at St. Martin on May 31

First pitch is at 7 p.m. in St. Martin on Tuesday, May 31, when top-seeded Albany faces the Sauk Centre Mainstreeters baseball team for the opening round of the District 19 playoffs.

7 - Sauk Centre

Today, Thursday - Sauk Centre hosts golf meet at Greystone Golf Club

The dual meet begins at 1 p.m. today. Both the boys' and girls' golf teams will be in action.

The teams will use it as a nice tune-up before next week's Section 6A preliminary round on June 2 at Territory Country Club in St. Cloud.

Streeters boys' coach Bruce Jarvi commented that Greystone Golf Club is quite similar in layout and structure to Territory.

Mainstreeters track and field geared up for the Sub-Section 6A-1 meet on Thursday

The field events start at 4:30 p.m. at the Minnewaska Area High School (5 miles west of Glenwood on Highway 28).

Running events will begin shortly after that.

Mainstreeters baseball suffers a hard luck loss at Long Prairie tonight

At Long Prairie-Grey Eagle tonight, the Sauk Centre Mainstreeters baseball team fell 7-5 to the Thunder.

LP-GE scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull ahead.

Brock Zenzen was three-for-three to lead the Streeters' offense. Derek Holm hit two hits, a triple and an RBI-single.

Noteworthy accomplishments achieved by Mainstreeter track and field team members - Plus Section 6AA softball playoff results

Noteworthy from the West Central North Conference track and field championships last week:

The 4x800 relay squad of Jacob Gerhartz, Dan Kluver, Isaac Winters and Mike Kluver earned their best time of the season by 18 seconds.

Maren Greenwaldt beat her season best time in the 1600 run by 9 seconds.

Elizabeth Hemsworth broke Savana Weller's school record in the 400 open. Weller's record was 59.06 seconds, and the new record is 58.69 seconds.

Rebecca Macey ran a 2:27 in the 800 open, her first time of her career under 2:30 in that event.

Greenwaldt also beat her best time in the 3200 by 20 seconds.

Sub-Section 6AA-West semi-final results on May 24:
Rocori 8, Paynesville Area 2
Albany 10, Minnewaska Area 1

Sub-Section 6AA-East semi-final results on May 24:
Holdingford 4, Milaca 3 (the Huskers had the game-winning run on third base, and the next batter hit a pop up to the Wolves' pitcher, but she dropped it)

Pierz beat Mora. No score. Pierz was ahead 7-2 at one point.

Mainstreeters softball season ends at Paynesville, earns most wins since 2001

In their bid for a playoff win at Paynesville Area, the Sauk Centre Mainstreeters softball team put up a strong effort against the #4-seeded Bulldogs in a 7-4 loss. Their final overall record in 2011 was 10-10, marking the most wins since the 2001 season, when the Streeters finished 11-10 overall and 1-1 in the Sub-Section 6AA-19 playoffs.
Sauk Centre left three base runners stranded in the first inning and seven overall in the game. They earned 8 hits and committed 3 errors while earning all four runs scored.

Paynesville Area improves to 16-3 overall with the win and will face top-seeded and 10th-ranked Rocori (17-3) in the semifinal tomorrow night at River's Edge Park in Waite Park.

Rocori 19, Melrose Area 0 (5 innings)
Minnewaska Area 9, New London-Spicer 0
Albany 8, Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 2
