While the Sauk Centre girls' basketball team has hogged the headlines, the co-op boys swimming squad of Sauk Centre-Melrose has quietly put together a great first half of their season.
The Fusion are undefeated in dual meets and had a huge win last week against Alexandria. Anytime you can beat a big school, its a big deal.
Said head coach James Schreiner: "This was a signature win for us."
The turning point came in the 100 freestyle where the Fusion took the top three spots with Jacob Koetter winning the race. Shay Mieczkowski is probably the best swimmer the Fusion have, but they are loaded with talent. Should be fun to watch them the rest of the season...check Tuesday's Herald for more on the Fusion.
