Savana Weller has finished second the past two years in the 800-meter run at the state meet. But this year she is vying to take the tape and she has put herself in good position to do so. Weller finished with the top time in Friday's preliminaries at Hamline University.
Her time of 2:17.90 was a full second better than Kasson-Mantorville's Laurel Ramer.
Ramer entered Friday's prelims with the top seed time of 2:16.61. The freshman finished second behind Weller on Friday, though. Weller demolished her seed time of 2:22.42 with her career-best performance.
Weller will try to cap off her outstanding track career with win on Saturday. She will race in the 800-meter run at 5:47 p.m. But it will be her second race of the day as she will also compete in the 4x800-meter run with Maren Greenwaldt, Kali Peschel and Rebecca Macey at 3 p.m.
Macey, Peschel, Weller and Elizabeth Hemsworth will also compete in the 4x400-meter relay to cap off the state meet at 6:25 p.m.
Both relays have a shot at a state title. Should be interesting.
Check back for results.
