When it rains, it pours.
The Streeters took to the gridiron Friday night in a hard rain against WCC stalwart Albany with hopes of rebounding from their double overtime loss last week to BOLD.
Not only did the Streeters lose 39-0, they lost perhaps their best player when Sam Fischer was carried off the field by teammates following a run in the first half. Fischer, who played on both sides of the ball, injured his knee when he was taken down by an Albany player. While the scope of the injury has not been confirmed, Fischer is likely to be out indefinitely.
That leaves the Streeters extremely shorthanded. Fischer played key roles on both offense and defense. With just 32 players on the roster, the Streeters can't afford to lose anyone, much less Fischer.
By the fourth quarter of Friday's game it was evident the Streeters were tired. Even when Albany brought in their second string players, Sauk didn't have any gas in the tank to mount much of an attack.
Quarterback Michael Knoblauch is also banged up with a sore ankle. He played most of Friday's tilt until it was clear the game was out of reach. Younger brother Patrick Knoblauch came in at QB but the Streeters couldn't muster any type of punch on the offensive side of the ball.
On a positive note, the Streeters showed great pride, never giving up or giving in. They played hard-nosed football til the final buzzer.
Thats all you can ask.
