Welcome to the Streeters Sports Blog where we will be following tonight's game for all of you who are out of the radio and TV coverage area.
We will give you a rundown of tonight's semi-final match up between the Mainstreeters, who are 30-1 after defeating Caledonia 58-43 Wednesday night. It was Sauk's 29th straight victory.
Minnehaha Academy is coming off a 60-59 win Wednesday over Jackson County Central. Minnehaha relies on their 6'5" center Katelyn Adams. Adams had 18 points and 16 rebounds in their quarterfinal win.
The Redhawks have five losses on the year, two coming to Class AAA powerhouse DeLasalle. One of their losses came on Dec. 29 to New London-Spicer by a score of 65-32. Sauk, of course, has beaten New London three times this season, including in the sub-section title game last Tuesday.
The Streeters will look to all-state guard Kali Peschel. Peschel scored just one basket in Wednesday's win, although she did make 12 of 15 free throws to finish with 14 points. Maren Greenwaldt will also be looked on to make some early shots. She got hot Wednesday early, making 4 of 5 from three-point range to finish with 14 points. But the star Wednesday was Macy Weller, who got hot in the second half to score 16 points and finish with nine rebounds.
The Streeters will need their supporting cast to chip in tonight as well, and it will be interesting to see how they handle the 6'5" Adams. No doubt Kourtney Nelson, Shelby Deters and Weller will have their hands full down low. But the Streeters' game is shooting long range jumpers. Peschel likes to drive, so we'll see if they key on her and if so, perhaps she can draw fouls, preferably from Adams.
Sauk is wearing their away white uniforms tonight. The Redhawks are wearing red.
Should be another great match up in the Streetrs' quest for a state title, the school's first since the boys' golf team won in 1986.
Here we go........
Get your popcorn ready.
