Kady Buschette and Mariah Rieland lost their state tournament opener this morning in a two-set affair 6-4,6-3 against Glencoe-Silver Lake's Mary Arnold and Jackie Stifter. They remain in the tournament in the consolation round, where they face Crookston's Bailey Morris and Lilli Denison at 2 p.m. this afternoon.
In their opener, Buschette and Rieland fought hard all the way, taking leads in the second set of 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 before the Panthers pulled away to seal it in two sets.
I talked to Coach Ryan Maddock of Osakis and learned that his Section 6A champion Silverstreaks squad lost two matches in the team tournament earlier this week. They lost both matches by 6-1 scores to Providence Academy and Virginia.
