The Foley Falcons fell to both basketball teams from Sauk Centre in West Central North Conference action last night, with the boys losing 69-54 and the girls losing 70-34.
The Melrose Dutchmen boys basketball team picked up an improbable 83-82 win at "Fort Knox" in New London last night, knocking the Wildcats into a first place tie in the conference with Long Prairie-Grey Eagle at 9-2.
For the Streeters boys basketball team, their final six games of the regular season are all in conference play. Three are against sub-section opponents, with the one on Friday, February 25 probably being the game that will determine who will be the #1 seed in Sub-Section 6AA-East. That night, Sauk Centre hosts NL-S. However, three nights before that, the Streeters have to win a game in Melrose. If Sauk Centre goes 0-2 in those games, they might end up anywhere from the #4 seed to the #2 seed.
West Central North Conference boys basketball standings as of February 8:
Long Prairie-Grey Eagle (9-2)
New London-Spicer (9-2)
St.Cloud Cathedral (7-3)
Sauk Centre (8-3)
Melrose Area (6-5)
Albany (5-6)
Milaca (3-9)
Foley (1-9)
Mora (1-10)
At Todd County Arena on Tuesday night, the Prairie Centre Area North Stars boys hockey team defeated Wadena-Deer Creek 11-4. The North Stars improve to 8-13-1 overall with the win, while W-DC falls to 4-17.
Prairie Centre Area's next action is on Thursday night, when they face the Morris/Benson Area Storm at Lee Expo Arena in Morris. The puck drops at 7pm. It's an important section match up, as the North Stars will try to reverse a 4-2 loss to MBA on January 13 in Sauk Centre.
