Mainstreeters volleyball sweeps rival New London-Spicer - Girls' tennis wins big at Minnewaska

The Sauk Centre Mainstreeters volleyball team won in three tonight against visiting New London-Spicer to improve to 3-0 in the West Central Conference and 8-0 overall.

They will now gear up for a huge 16-team tournament hosted at Sauk Rapids-Rice high school. Teams included are defending Class AA champion Wadena-Deer Creek, Holdingford, Mora, Annandale, Rogers, Elk River, Dassel-Cokato,
Melrose Area, St. Cloud Cathedral, Albany, St. Cloud Apollo, Little Falls, Long Prairie-Grey Eagle, Sauk Rapids-Rice and Kimball Area.

Action begins at 9 a.m.

In a West Central North match at Minnewaska Area, the Mainstreeters girls' tennis team won 6-1 over the Lakers to improve to 2-1 in the conference. Next Monday, the Mainstreeters (10-4) travel to Melrose Area for what is probably the conference dual meet championship. The following day the girls' tennis team hosts New London-Spicer. If Melrose beats Sauk Centre on Monday, they will essentially clinch the WCCN title for 2011. If the Mainstreeters can pull off the win, they probably will end up as co-champions of the WCCN with the Dutchmen. The match on Monday is HUGE!

At the Little Crow Golf Course, both of the Mainstreeters cross country teams took fifth place out of seven complete teams in each division.

Area volleyball results on Sept. 15:
Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 3, Royalton 0
Osakis 3, West Central Area 1
Melrose Area 3, Paynesville Area 0
Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 3, Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted 1
Wheaton/Herman-Norcross 3, Hancock 2 (@ Hancock, a mild upset)
Sauk Centre 3, New London-Spicer 0
Holdingford 3, Eden Valley-Watkins 2
