In week two on September 9, the Mainstreeters football team will host Montevideo at O'Gara Field for the West Central North Conference opener. The Thunderhawks, who are poised to improve on last year's 2-7 record and are seeking their first conference title since 2007, pummeled neighboring rival Lac qui Parle Valley tonight 41-12 in Montevideo. They piled up an unheard of 573 yards of offense, with 283 yards coming on the ground. Montevideo was hampered by 10 penalties for 79 yards, which undoubtedly kept them from scoring into the 50s.
Montevideo was moved to the West Central North this season to help balance out the 14-team West Central Conference after the departure of Mora, Foley, St. Cloud Cathedral, Milaca and Long Prairie-Grey Eagle. The Thunderhawks are a Class AAA team, while this season Sauk Centre is in Class AA.
Look for a full scouting report on the Thunderhawks next week.
