Coming off of an exciting overtime win to end the regular season, the Sauk Centre Mainstreeters boys' basketball team is set to host seventh-seeded Holdingford (7-17) tonight at 7 p.m. at SCHS gymnasium. The Mainstreeters, seeded number two in Sub-Section 6AA-North, enter the playoffs with a 20-5 record.
Sauk Centre hosted Holdingford in the 2012-13 season opener and won 70-56.
Following their 61-58 overtime win last Friday at Long Prairie, head coach Mike Ellens commented, "It was a great game for our kids. We've blown out a lot of teams, especially in the second half of the season, and we needed one where we had to really pull together to get the win."
Sauk Centre held a seven-point lead with around four minutes to go when the Thunder made a run by getting a couple key steals and knocking down three-pointers to erase the three-possession deficit.
"We were taking some good shots but missed," Ellens said. "They came down and scored on the other end."
For the game, LP-GE (15-9) made 12 three-pointers.
